Additionally, there are special “live days” – today, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, being the first of the three planned – where attendees can meet with vendors via chat, video or email. CIPHEX also has a digital passport program where visitors can enter for prize draws while visiting the virtual booths.

Parting Shot: (Witches’) hats off to plumber for making Halloween safer

With everyone playing it extra safe this year, Geoff Burke, owner of Watermark Plumbing Services in Toronto and part-time professor at George Brown College decided to do his part to help the cause. He picked up on an Ohio father’s idea to create candy chutes for socially distanced shelling out of Halloween treats. The orange-and-black coloured chutes made from 5 feet of 4-inch PVC pipe proved to be a big hit. It wasn’t just the trick or treaters who benefited. Burke decided to start a Candy Chute Challenge, where he offered to install a chute in exchange for a $25 donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank. People quickly rallied to the call, and he ended up with 400 orders in just two days. They were such a hit, he also got plenty of press coverage in media outlets across the country. “I was surprised how quick it got attention,” he said in an interview for CBC. Good works for a good cause – what better treat is there?
