HRAI doubling down on advocacy

“We’ve been good at reacting to changes; we’ve not been very effective in setting the agenda. That’s something we are going to change,” stated Martin Luymes, HRAI’s vice-president of government and stakeholder relations, at the most recent meeting of the association’s Greater Toronto Area Chapter.

Chapter members in attendance were provided with information about the goals that the association has set for itself, which Luymes described as a re-focusing on advocacy, as well as about some of the positive changes to HRAI training opportunities, the stalled reimagining of the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT), and the current activities of the HVAC Coalition.

Parting Shot: Red Bull gives you… skates?

red-bull.jpgRefrigeration systems will be working overtime this month at the Red Bull Ice Cross World Championships. The championship has already found its way to Percé, Quebec this month, and will also be heading to Rautalampi, Finland;  Yokohama, Japan; Igora, Russia; and Le Massif de Charlevoix near Quebec City (February 22).

The series – formerly known as Red Bull Crashed Ice – has fearless skaters weaving their ways through upwards of 700 meters of ice filled with obstacles such as bumps, turns, hairpins and waves. The ice is either natural or artificial, depending on the location. Given the kinds of winters Quebec City tends to experience, the refrigeration systems there may have the day off!
