CIPH raises concerns over Vancouver’s emissions plan

The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) has raised a number of concerns with authorities in Vancouver, B.C., over proposed low carbon and energy efficiency updates to the city’s by-law for low-rise residential buildings (under four storeys).
Of particular concern to CIPH is the speed at which the city is hoping to implement these changes. Vancouver council has set a target date of 2025 for all new and replacement space and water heating in low-rise buildings within the city to be zero-emission systems. CIPH believes the industry doesn’t have enough time to react to the changes and fears fewer options would drive up costs for consumers.
The city says the proposed changes are in response to the council’s direction to accelerate action on greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Council claims that the largest source of greenhouse gas in the city is from the burning of fossil fuels for heating and hot water generation in buildings.

Parting Shot: Fine set of pipes

Pressing plastic pipe odds and ends into service as musical instruments may not be a first, as the Russian plumbers we featured in 2018 prove, but the men and women of the British Gas Engineer Band have teamed their orchestra of 30,000 spare parts with a recognizable R&B classic and a decent singer. The fact the video is shot using some of London’s most iconic locations as a backdrop is simply a bonus.
